How to remove old Java versions from managed computers in Patch Manager

Table of contents

Updated Oct 30, 2018

This article describes how to set up a task to remove the old java versions when the Update Management Task displays only partial success.

All Patch Manager versions

  1. Log in to Patch Manager as an administrator.
  2. In the navigation pane, locate a workstation or server in the Managed Computers Node or the WSUS Computers and Groups that is running an outdated Java version you want to remove.
  3. Right-click the workstation and select Computer Explorer.
  4. Select the Installed Software Tab.
  5. Highlight the version or versions of Java you want to remove and click Uninstall Software.

You can select multiple Java versions. Be aware that the workstations and servers you add to the task also need these Java versions. Otherwise, they will generate an error.

  6. Verify the version of Java listed here is the correct version to remove and click uninstall.
  7. Add all workstations and servers to the list with the same version of Java to be removed.
  8. Run or schedule the task.
  9. Click Finish.

Another mode is to use package boot feature in Patch manager to remove the old java version in one go. Refer to How to uninstall previous Java 8 versions using Patch Manager for more details
