How to locate the Internet Explorer version on a managed computer

Overview

Patch Manager does not collect the Microsoft® Internet Explorer® version installed on managed computers. To collect this information, create an inventory configuration template to pull this information from the Registry on each managed computer.

Steps

Use the following Registry keys and string values in your inventory configuration template.

32-bit computers

  • Registry Hive: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
  • Registry Key Path: SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer
  • Registry Value (String): Version

64-bit computers

  • Registry Hive: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
  • Registry Key Path: SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Internet Explorer
  • Registry Value (String): Version

Creating the inventory configuration template will not alter any existing scheduled Inventory tasks. To add this information to your scheduled Inventory tasks, replace those tasks with new tasks using the new template.
