How to download package content when a package does not include a direct-download link

Table of contents

Some packages from the SolarWinds third-party update catalog do not include a direct-download link for the corresponding update. In these cases, the Package Details tab in the Patch Manager console displays the URL to the targeted KB article in the Download URL field.

When you click Download Content for these updates, Patch Manager opens the Package Download Assistant to guide you through the process of downloading and importing these updates.

The following procedure outlines the general steps involved in this process.

Patch Manager

  1. Log in to Patch Manager as an administrator.
  2. Using the navigation pane, locate and select a package that does not include a direct-download link in the Package Details.
  3. In the right pane, click Download Content.
  4. Click OK to continue.
  5. In the Package Download Assistant window, note the URL(s) in the Links section.

Most packages only refer to one URL. Other packages may include several links if additional information or resources are available.

  6. Double-click the download URL to open the vendor downloads page in your web browser.
  7. Download and extract the update file(s) from the vendor web page.

Be sure to note the directory path to the extracted files.

  8. Click Import Source in the Package Download Assistant window.
  9. Navigate to the directory Browse to the folder you specified step 7.

When you click Select the downloaded package file, the file name automatically populates the dialog box. Browse to the folder, and click Open.

  10. If you selected multiple packages, repeat step 7 and step 8 for each selected package.
  11. Click OK.
