HTTP 503 error after synchronizing the WSUS server or configuring a task


After you configure an update task or synchronize your WSUS server, the following error message displays: 

Download failed. Http status 503 - temporarily overloaded Error Code: 0x80244022


All Patch Manager versions


The Private Memory Limit setting in the WSUS application pool is set too low.


Update the Private Memory Limit setting in Microsoft® Internet Information Services (IIS).

  1. Open the IIS Manager on your WSUS server. 
  2. Highlight Application Pools and select your WSUS application pool from the list.
  3. Right-click and select Advanced Settings.
  4. Scroll down and increase the Private Memory Limit from the default 1843200kb (1.8GB) to 8000000 (8GB).
  5. Restart the application pool.
  6. Repeat the update management task.
