Error when Patch Manager connects to a remote SQL server

When Patch Manager connects to a remote server hosting a Microsoft® SQL Server® database, the application generates the following error:

Login failed for user 'domain\servername$'. Reason: Could not find a login matching 
the name provided. [CLIENT:]
Error: 18456, Severity: 14, State: 5


  • Patch Manager
  • Remote SQL server


The Network Service account does not have permission to connect to the SQL server.
