Internet Explorer installed through WSUS cannot be uninstalled

Internet Explorer or any other Windows feature that has been installed through WSUS cannot be uninstalled.

  • All Patch Manager versions
  • All Windows versions

WSUS can push new versions of Internet Explorer and other Windows Features. After these have been installed it is not possible to uninstall them through WSUS or Patch Manager Update Management.

As a workaround, run a batch file that can uninstall the update. The following is an example:

FORFILES /P %WINDIR%\servicing\Packages /M Microsoft-Windows-InternetExplorer-*11.*.mum /c "cmd /c echo Uninstalling package @fname && start /w pkgmgr /up:@fname /quiet /norestart"
