When new updates come out for a particular package, the old updates will become metadata only. This article describes how to clear this status and deploy the full version of the package again.

All Patch Manager versions

Newer updates have come out for that package and the old ones get marked as metadata when superseded.

  1. Open Patch Manager and navigate to Software Publishing.
  2. Find the update that you wish to clear the metadata only status from, right click and select Edit.
  3. Edit the Package Title and delete the '(metadata only)' from the title. Click Next >.
  4. On the Prerequisite Rules screen we do not need to modify anything here, click Next >.
  5. On the Select Package screen, select Advanced at the bottom left corner.
  6. Deselect the Metadata Only box and select OK.
  7. Now back at the Select Package screen, hit Next > and continue to hit Next > on every screen until the package saves itself as there are no further modifications we need to make to the package.
  8. Now you will need to publish the newly modified package to the WSUS server. For more information on how to publish packages to the WSUS please click the link here.
