Failed to send partitioned task to automation server

Updated February 24, 2017

Overview

When browsing any automation Servers in the Patch manager server from Enterprise> Update Services > WSUS SERVER, you may see below error:

Source: EminentWare.UI.Controls
Exception occurred at date_time
Source: Data Grid Server( Server name)
Reason: Failed to send partitioned task to automation server <Server Name>. Reason: rpcclient::createsession() failed. Access Denied. Message: Communication Failure.
Details: dgsrpcinterface::createsession failed
Object: <Server name>
Object Type: WSUS server.

Environment

Patch Manager 2.1.3 with one or more separate automation server roles

Cause

Either the MSSQL server is down or the SQL Instance is not running.

Note: Each installation of Patch Manager uses its own SQL DB no matter if its role is Primary, Management or automation.

Resolution

Solution 1: Make sure that the MSSQL DB server is up and running and the SQL Instance as well. Make sure the Eminentware DB is accessible to the EWDGS serivce account.

Solution 2: Re-install the WSUS and Automation Server role on the problem server also fixed similar issue.

Note: reinstalling will destroy the data.
