Overview

Errors about duplicate key appear when trying to add client machine via First Time Usage Wizard (FTUW).

All Patch Manager versions

Resolution

Adding client machine via FTUW anticipates configuring group policies for Windows Updates on the client box of Patch Manager.

If you have a client machine with configured group policies for Windows Updates, SolarWinds does not recommended to use FTUW to add it. The client machine will be detected by WSUS automatically and will be shown under WSUS server node.

However, if you need to use FTUW to add a client machine, complete the following steps:

gpedit.msc 
gpupdate /force

Note: When successful, a message shows "User Policy update has been completed successfully."

Note: It may take several minutes for the First Time Usage Wizard to load.

  1. In the client machine, run the command line and enter the command:
  2. In the Local Group Policy Editor window, expand Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components, and then select Windows Update.
  3. Ensure that Configure Automatic Updates, Specify intranet Microsoft update service location, and Allow signed updates from an intranet Microsoft update location are set to Not Configured. Close the window.
  4. In the client machine, run the command line and enter the command:
  5. Open the Patch Manager console.
  6. Click Administration and Reporting.
  7. Click First Time Usage Wizard.
  8. Select Add a computer, and then fill out all information.
  9. Select the WSUS server Patch Manager will use. Client machine is added.
