Error when updating a computer using Patch Manager

When you update a computer using Patch Manager, an Operational Details dialog box displays with the following message:

Operation: Download

Object: Update for Outlook Social Connector (KB2289116), 32-Bit Edition

Status: Failed


Details: Download failed. Winhttp SendRequest/ReceiveResponse failed with 0x2ee7 error. Either the proxy server or target server name can not be resolved.

Corresponding to ERROR_WINHTTP_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED. Stop/Restart service or reboot the machine if you see this error frequently. Error Code: 0x8024402C


All Patch Manager versions


The Windows Update Agent is corrupted. This problem can occur when you run Windows Update on a targeted system. 


Repair the Microsoft Windows Update Agent (WUA) on the targeted system.

  1. Log in to the Patch Manager Admin Console as an administrator. 
  2. In the navigation pane, navigate to the workstation that needs to be repaired. 
  3. Select the workstation, and then select Windows Update Agent Maintenance and Repair in the Actions pane.
    The Windows Update Agent Maintenance and Repair dialog box displays.
  4. Under Repair Options, select the options displayed below.
  5. Under Maintenance select:

    (Re)install the Windows Update Agent or install Windows Update Agent Update

    Review the note before you continue.

  6. Click OK to continue.
  7. In the Task Schedule window, enable the task to run immediately or at a later date.
  8. Complete any remaining fields, and click OK.
  9. After the update runs at the scheduled time, maximize Administration and Reporting and select Task History.
  10. Verify that the update completed successfully.
