Error when modifying proxy settings: Value cannot be null

This article addresses the issue where the following error appears when modifying proxy settings for the Patch Manager admin console:

Failed to perform operation.

Value cannot be null


All Patch Manager versions


This occurs when the registry key for the user's console settings is corrupted.


  1. Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\EminentWare\Console\ProxySettings
  2. Back up the settings or document them.
  3. Delete the Data key.  Leave the rest of the settings intact.
  4. Re-open the console and try to set the Proxy settings again.
