Error when installing Patch Manager on a server running SQL Server 2008 or 2012

Updated: June 18, 2018

Overview

When you install Patch Manager in Advanced Mode on a supported version of Microsoft® SQL Server® 2018 or 2012, an error is displayed.

Environment

  • All Patch Manager versions
  • SQL Server 2008
  • SQL Server 2012

Cause

An incorrect SQL Server instance name was entered in the configuration wizard during the installation.

Resolution

If you selected Default instance during the SQL Server installation, enter the server name in the SQL Server Instance field, as shown below. The installation procedure should proceed without generating an error.

If you did not select Default instance during the SQL Server installation, enter the server name and instance name (SERVER_NAME\INSTANCE_NAME) in the SQL Server Instance field, as shown below. The installation should continue without generating an error.
