Overview

You receive an error when installing Patch Manager in Advanced Mode on Microsoft SQL Server 2008 or 2012.

Environment

  • All Patch Manager versions
  • Microsoft SQL Server 2008 or 2012

Cause

Incorrectly specifying the SQL server name or instance during installation.

Resolution

If you selected Default instance during the SQL Server installation, then provide only the server name SERVER_NAME in the SQL Server Instance field. For example, refer to the following screenshot. Installation should then proceed without error.

If you did not select Default instance during the SQL Server installation, you need to provide both server name and instance name, SERVER_NAME\INSTANCE_NAME, in the SQL Server Instance field. For example, refer to the following screenshot. Installation should then proceed without error.

Note: You can choose the SQL Server Instance depending on Microsoft SQL version installed in your server.
