Overview

Microsoft has provided an update which is KB3159706. This update is for EDS encryption and also restructuring of the WSUS database for windows 10 update distribution. They have provided post-Installation instructions, which are required.

 

If the post-installation steps are not completed you will run into issues when attempting to use WSUS.

 

Errors include:

  • WSUS Console will not connect.
  • Errors seen in the Windows Application log or in the WSUS console directly:
    • Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE'. Reason: Failed to open the explicitly specified database 'SUSDB'.

Cause 

Restructures the SQL database

Resolution

Option 1: Revert back or remove KB update.

 

Option 2: Apply the update and follow Microsoft's installation and post-installation steps.
