Credential Ring error displays when selecting Update Services

Overview

When you select Update Services in the Patch Manager Admin Console navigation menu, an error message displays stating that the credential ring is missing. However, a credential ring is configured and modifiable in the Console.

Environment

Patch Manager version  2.1.x

Resolution

Delete the existing Credential Ring, and then create a new default Credential Ring.

Patch Manager uses credential rings to map credentials to managed resources. This enables Patch Manager to know which credential(s) to pull from the database before performing a task on one or more managed computers. Any credential you add to Patch Manager is useless until you map it to at least one resource in a Credential Ring.

  1. Log in to the Patch Manager Admin Console as an administrator.
  2. In the navigation pane, select Patch Manager System Configuration > Security and User Management,
  3. In the Credentials tab, select a user name.
  4. Right click the user name and select Change Password.
  5. In the Change Password window, enter the and confirm the password, and click Save.
  6. Repeat step 3 through step 5 for each additional user name.
  7. Select the Credential Rings tab.
  8. Right-click the existing Credential Ring and select Delete.
  9. Create a new Credential Ring
  10. Populate the default Credential Ring
  11. Edit the user accounts as required.

See the Patch Manager Administrator Guide and Getting Started Guide for additional information.
