Apply KB2734608 to your WSUS systems from Patch Manager

Overview

This article describes how to apply Microsoft® KB2734608 to your Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) server and console systems from SolarWinds Patch Manager.

This update includes all security fixes included in Microsoft KB2720211 and adds Microsoft Windows® 8 and Windows Server® 2012 client support to WSUS 3.0 SP2.

If you install or upgrade to Patch Manager 1.85 and you do not have KB2720211 or KB2734608 installed on the WSUS server, Patch Manager installs KB2734608 automatically. For local publishing to work, all WSUS systems in the publishing environment must be running the same WSUS version. This includes patches such as KB2734608.

Steps

 

Distribute KB2734608 to your WSUS systems from Patch Manager

  1. In the left pane of the Patch Manager console, expand Enterprise, and then select Update Services.
  2. In the center pane, select all WSUS systems to which you want to deploy the update. Use Ctrl+click to select multiple systems.
  3. In the Actions pane (right), click Windows Update Agent Maintenance and Repair.
  4. In the Windows Update Agent Maintenance and Repair window, select (Re)Install the Windows Update Agent or install Windows Update Agent Update, and then replace the URLs in the active fields as follows:

  5. Click OK.
  6. Complete the Task Options Wizard to execute or schedule the task.

Note: If you had any Windows 8 or Windows Server 2012 clients synchronizing to WSUS 3.0 SP2 before you deployed the KB2734608 patch, complete the following procedure to get them to synchronize with the patched WSUS servers.

Fix Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012 systems previously synchronized to an unpatched WSUS 3.0 SP2 system

  1. In the left pane of the Patch Manager console, expand Enterprise, and then select Managed Computers.
  2. In the Actions pane (right), click Windows Update Agent Maintenance and Repair.
  3. In the Windows Update Agent Maintenance and Repair window, select Delete Software Distribution Folder and sub-folders, and then click OK.
  4. On the computer selection screen, add the Windows 8 and/or Windows Server 2012 systems you want to repair, and then click Next.
  5. Complete the Task Options Wizard to execute or schedule the task.
