Verify the issue

  1. Open the HighAvailability.Service log. By default, the log is located at C:\ProgramData\Solarwinds\Logs\HighAvailability.
  2. Search for the “Unable to get pool member RunType from Registry".

If you find the message in the log, view values for RunType in the registry and correct them.

Environment

  • Orion Platform products with High Availability deployment

Cause

The Orion Installer incorrectly initializes the RunType value in the registry.

Resolution

  1. Launch the Registry Editor on the server with the issue.
For example, type run into the Windows search field, and enter regedit.
  2. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Wow6432Node > SolarWinds > High Availability.
  3. Make sure the value for InstallType and RunType is correct. If not, double-click the value and change it as follows:
    • On the active primary polling engine, both InstallType and RunType values must be MainPoller.
    • On the standby primary polling engine, both InstallType and RunType values must be MainPollerStandby.
    • On an active additional polling engine, both InstallType and RunType values must be AdditionalPoller.
    • On a standby additional polling engine, both InstallType and RunType values must be AdditionalPollerStandby.
  4. Restart the HA Service. Run Windows Services, and restart the SolarWinds HighAvailability service.
