OpsGenie console shows Warning: Recursive macro variable usage detected

Updated September 13th, 2017

The OpsGenie console for an alert shows Warning: Recursive macro variable usage detected

  • All versions of Orion platform products

The list of variables sent to OpsGenie is not delimited properly.

The examples in the OpsGenie integration with Solarwinds show the beginning of the variable list, however the examples do not show what the end of the list should look like.

  1. The list should end with a variable or constant.  It should not end with an "&"

Example of CORRECT end of list:

Example of INCORRECT end of list:

  2. If you suspect that the problem is with an alerting variable, create an action to "Log the Alert to a File".  Copy the "Body to Post" from the "Send a GET or POST Request to a Web Server" to the "Message" box of the text file.  Simulate the "Log the Alert to a File" action.  See if the recursion message occurs.
