Network Atlas Maps load slowly or do not load in NPM 12.2 and later

Updated July 3, 1018

If SolarWinds Network Atlas maps load slowly or do not load in the Orion Web Console, or if the Network Atlas app can't load on remote clients, you can use the Orion Platform Advanced Configuration option to specify infrequently used entities that Network Atlas will ignore when loading map data.

  • Orion Platform 2017.3 and later
  • NPM 12.2 and later

If you encounter this issue in Orion Platform  2016.x — 2017.1, see Network Atlas maps load slowly or do not load.

By default, Network Atlas loads every entity that can be displayed on the map, along with entity dependencies, properties, and status calculations. In large environments, this amount of data may cause maps to load slowly or cause timeouts that block maps from loading. If this issue occurs, specify infrequently used entities that Network Atlas should ignore when loading maps.

This can be quickly tested by

Creating a user with account limitation for only 1 random node and see if the problem map show's up in Network Atlas (with all the nodes grey/unknown).The important part is the map loads.
This means that the map (and its submaps) contain so many netobjects that loading them causes NA crash on out of memory (or something similar). The account limitation supersedes the crash/timeout

Use the Advanced Configuration option in the Orion Platform to specify infrequently used entities that Network Atlas should ignore when gathering dependencies, properties, and status calculations.

To configure Network Atlas to ignore certain entities:

  1. Log into the Orion Web Console using an account with administrative privileges.
  2. In the address field of the web browser, enter the following URL:
    • http:// (your host name)/Orion/Admin/AdvancedConfiguration/Global.aspx: Global tab
  3. Press Enter.
  4. When the Setting Editor page appears, navigate to MapsEntitiesBlacklist in the Map.Settings section.
  5. Specify entities that Network Atlas should ignore. Edit the following list of infrequently used entities, as necessary, for the needs of your organization.
