Overview

This article provides steps to monitor BGP-configured routers.

Using Universal Device Pollers (UnDP), Orion NPM can monitor any Cisco router configured to use the Border Gateway Protocol (BGP).

Environment

NPM version 9.0 or later

Steps

  1. Confirm that the BGP-configured device has been discovered and imported into the Orion database. For more information about Network Sonar Discovery, see Discovering and Adding Network Devices in the SolarWinds Orion Network Performance Monitor Administrator Guide.
  2. If Orion NPM does not automatically provide monitoring data for your BGP-configured routers, create a new Universal Device Poller using the OIDs included within the BGP4-MIB (OID 1.3.6.1.2.15). For more information about Universal Device Pollers, see Monitoring MIBs with Universal Device Pollers in the SolarWinds Orion Network Performance Monitor Administrator Guide.
  3. Add Universal Device Poller resources for your BGP Universal Device Pollers to appropriate Orion Web Console views. For more information, see Viewing Universal Device Poller Statistics in the SolarWinds Orion Network Performance Monitor Administrator Guide.
  4. Use Orion Report Writer to generate reports for your BGP Universal Device Pollers. For more information, see Creating Reports in the SolarWinds Orion Network Performance Monitor Administrator Guide.
  5. Use the Advanced Alert Manager to create alerts for your BGP Universal Device Pollers. For more information, see Creating Alerts for Universal Device Pollers in the SolarWinds Orion Network Performance Monitor Administrator Guide.
