Unable To Edit Nodes, Interfaces, or Volumes Assigned To the Additional Polling Engine

You are not able to edit a node, interface, or volume that is assigned to an additional poller. An error similar to the one below is found in the OrionWeb.log on the Main Orion Polling Engine:


ERROR InfoServiceProxy - An error occurred opening a connection to the Orion communication service.
System.ServiceModel.EndpointNotFoundException: No DNS entries exist for hostComputerName. --->
System.Net.Sockets.SocketException: No such host is known at System.Net.Dns.GetAddrInfo(String name) 


  • Orion Platform, all versions


  • Invalid or broken DNS entries


Solution 1:

Consult your Systems Administrator to input or correct the current DNS irregularities.

Solution 2:

Update the Hosts file and add the missing DNS entries:

  1. On your Windows Server, go to the %SystemRoot%\system32\drivers\etc directory and open the Hosts file in a text editor such as Notepad.
  2. On a blank line, type the IP address, followed by at least one space, and then the host header name of the other Polling Engines in your environment.
  3. Save the Hosts file.
    Note: This file should not have a file name extension. The file name should simply be Hosts.
