Overview

This article provides provides brief information and a resolution to the following configuration wizard error:

Services configuration failed: exception while configuring plugin Orion Core Services component Message Bus. Keyset does not exist

 As well as solutions involving the certificates snap-in have no effect.

 

Environment

All Orion Core products (Orion v12, additional pollers, additional web servers, and NTA Flow storage server) 

Cause 

Permissions issues with machinekeys folder.

 

Resolution

  1. On the Orion server, go to: c:\programdata\microsoft\crypto\rsa\
  2. Give the machinekey folder the permissions below, and then run configuration wizard again:
    PLEASE NOTE: These permissions are mandatory and must be in place. All of them must be set as documented below.
    Administrators	 (Full Control)
    
    Everyone	         (Special)	
    
    To view the special permissions for the Everyone group,
    		  right-click the MachineKeys folder, click
    		  Advanced on the Security tab, and then click
    		  View/Edit. The permissions consist of the following
    		  permissions: List Folder/Read Data
    
    Read Attributes
    Read Extended Attributes
    Create Files/Write Data
    Create Folders/Append Data
    Write Attributes
    Write Extended Attributes
    Read Permissions
