Overview

Beginning with Orion Platform 2017.3, users can now run the Configuration Wizard during upgrades on multiple APEs, AWSs, and APE HA Backup servers simultaneously.

Environment

  • Orion Platform products using Orion Platform 2017.3 or later.

Detail

Users are always looking for ways to minimize downtime when upgrading. Beginning with Orion Platform 2017.3, you can run multiple Configuration Wizards during upgrades on Additional Polling Engines, Additional Web Servers, and Additional Polling Engine High Availability backup servers simultaneously.

The only limitation is that the main Orion server must be upgraded first, followed by the other servers. SolarWinds recommends upgrading in the following order:

  1. Active, main Orion server. Allow the Configuration Wizard to complete.
  2. All APEs, AWSs, HA backups for your APEs. These can be done in parallel. Allow the Configuration Wizards to complete.
  3. HA main Orion standby server.
The active, main Orion server, APEs, AWSs, and HA APE backups can all be active and running while the HA backup server is being upgraded.
