Orion service crashes when upgrading to NPM 11.5.3

Overview

The Orion service crashes and causes memory exhaustion when upgrading a primary polling engine and an additional polling engine to NPM 11.5.3. The following messages are shown in the Event log:

The description for Event ID '-1073740816' in Source 'Perflib' cannot be found.  The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display the message, or you may not have permission to access them.  The following information is part of the event:'BITS', 'C:\Windows\System32\bitsperf.dll', '4'

Service Start Failure - Exception during Initalize Could not load file or assembly 'System.ServiceModel, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' or one of its dependencies. The paging file is too small for this operation to complete. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x800705AF)

Environment

NPM 11.5.3 and earlier

Resolution

Perform the following options:

  • Reboot the Orion server.
  • Clear the .NET DLL cache.
