Orion Web Console initial slow loading issues

Overview

Websites in IIS, like the Orion Web Console, may have initial slow loading issues if the IIS server is processing excessive connections to external websites.

Environment

All Orion versions

Resolution

To diagnose and fix connections that the IIS server is making externally:

  1. Download Process Monitor from the Microsoft website, a Windows process monitoring tool from Windows sysinternals.
  2. Run Process Monitor while completing an installation of a SolarWinds product.
  3. Search the Process Monitor trace for any TCP Reconnects or other indications of attempted connections to external websites (such as, crl.verisign.het:http).

Note: w3wp.exe is a process that might attempt TCP connections.

Fixing the Connection Issue

If attempted connections to an external website are found, and you can refer to the following five options to resolve the excessive connection issue:

  • Use the WinHTTP Proxy Configuration Utility to confirm that all proxy servers, if any are used, are configured correctly for IIS.
For more information, refer to Using the WinHTTP Proxy Configuration Utility in the Microsoft website.
  • Disable Certificate Revocation Checking:
    1. Click Start > Control Panel > Internet Options.
    2. On the Advanced tab, unmark Check for server certificate revocation under Security, and click OK.

Note: Restart the web browser after perfoming the above steps.

  • If the host file is not in the IIS server, add the website to which the IIS server is attempting to connect to the host.
  • Confirm that any and all firewalls allow connections to the indicated external website.
  • Edit the web.config file:
    1. Using a text editor, such as Notepad, open c:\inetpub\SolarWinds\web.config
    2. Add the following in the runtime and /runtime tags: generatepublisherevidence and /generatepublisherevidence.

Applies To : All SolarWinds products that use the Orion Web Console.
