Orion Web Console displays Down node status when actual node status is Up

Updated December 17, 2018

Overview

When you log in to the Orion Web Console and check the node status, some nodes display a Down status when they are up and running.

Environment

  • Orion Platform

Cause

The nodes are down only from the Orion Platform server's perspective. The Orion Platform evaluates a node status using the Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP). If ICMP communication is not enabled from the Orion Platform server to the node, the server evaluates the node as down.

Resolution

Contact your network administrator to enable ICMP (or SNMP) from the Orion Platform server to the monitored node.
