Orion Platform 2018.2 Hotfix 5: Orion Maps features overview

Updated September 19, 2018

SolarWinds Orion Platform 2018.2 Hotfix 5 provides the following new features for Orion Maps:

  • Orion Maps are now available in SAM to generate contextual maps from Application Details pages.
  • Maps now include all SRM entities and VMAN data stores. Mapping dependencies between SAM, VMAN, SRM, and WPM were improved.
  • Selecting white space on a Map provides the Map Summary listing all items on the map.
  • Zoom levels and layout options are persisted in the URL so that you can share the map with the same level of focus.
  • You can move entities on the canvas to better see individual entities on crowded maps. These changes are not saved in the map.
  • Depending on the entity for which you access the Orion Map, you can perform actions to save changes. On entity details pages, you can save entities as a new group.
  • Revert button is now available on the map. It takes you to the original context of the map.
  • Navigation bar in the Inspector Panel: access related or connected entities, alerts, or VMAN recommendations directly from the Inspector Panel.

For more information about Orion Maps, see Orion Platform 2018.2 feature: Orion Maps and Orion Maps

Navigation bar in the Inspector Panel

Orion Maps v2 added a navigation bar to the left side of the Inspector Panel. When you select an entity, the Inspector Panel displays further details:

  • Related entities: Pick all relations you want to list: descendants, ancestors, and/or dependencies. You can further sort, filter and search in the results.

To find out what related entities are already on the map, check out the box in front of listed entities. Blue ones are already on the map.

To add an entity from the list to the map, select the box for the entity, and click Apply. The entity appears on the map and the box turns blue.

  • Connected entities: Connected entities provide a filtered look at any relationships discovered through network topology or Application Dependency Connections.
  • Alerts: See the list of critical, warning or informational messages. You can sort and search the results.
  • VMAN recommendations: If you have VMAN installed, you can see and apply VMAN recommendations.

Save entities on a map as a group

You can easily create groups from entities on a map.

  1. Make sure the map displays objects for the group.
  2. Click Save > Save as New Group.
  3. Provide a name for the group. The group details view opens.

To add new objects to the group, open the map for the group. On the Maps subview, adjust the map, and then click Save > Update This Group.
