New Features

SolarWinds Orion Platform 2018.2 Hotfix 5 introduces Orion Maps updates:

  • Contextual Orion Map subviews are now available for SRM entity details pages, SAM application details pages (including AppInsight entities), and also for VMAN datastore details pages.
  • Improved mapping of relationships and dependencies between SAM, VMAN, SRM, and WPM entities.
  • You can select and re-orient entities on the canvas to provide better emphasis on a certain area in crowded maps. These changes are not permanent and are not saved in the map or URL.
  • Zoom levels and layout options are included in the URL so that you can share the map with the same level of focus.
  • Selecting white space on a Map opens the Map Summary panel, which lists all entities currently displayed on the map. You can search, sort, and filter listed entities based on the entity type.
  • The Inspector Panel was updated to include a navigation bar with more contextual datasets:
    • Related: Displays a list of descendants, ancestors, or dependencies, based on the selection in the map. You can extend the map to by adding or removing the entities in the list.
    • Connected: Displays connections based on actual data flow through topology (NPM) or Application Dependency Connections (SAM). You can add or remove these connections to the canvas.
    • Alerts: Provides a list of active alerts for the selected entity and its descendants.
    • Recommendations: If you have VMAN installed, use this tab to display and apply VMAN recommendations.
  • Revert button is now available on the map. It takes you to the original context of the map if you made any changes.
  • Save options for Orion Groups:
    • You can create a new group from an entity details page. The new group consists of all entities available on the Orion Map.
    • From Orion Group details page, you can update the current group, or save changes as a new group.
