Updated January 29, 2018

This article describes how to move an Additional Polling Engine (APE) to a new server.

  • All NPM versions
  • All SAM versions

  1. Ensure that the proper ports are opened on the new server that will contain the polling engine.
See SAM port requirements for details.
  2. Add the new poller to the new server.
    1. Log in to the Orion Web Console.
    2. Scroll down to Details and click Polling Engines.
    3. Click Download Installer Now.
    4. Use the installer to install the new APE.

This process guarantees that the same software level on the Orion server will be included on the Additional Poller.

    5. In the Configuration Wizard, point the new poller to the Orion database.
    6. To minimize monitoring outages, move all nodes from the to-be-decommisioned poller to another licensed poller.
  3. Open License Manager.

The to-be-decommisioned poller and new poller display in the list.

  4. Deactivate the license on the decommisioned poller.
  5. Activate the license on the new poller.
  6. Using Manage Nodes or Edit Node, move the nodes to the new poller.
