Monitoring Multiple Agents With the Same IP Address On A Single Polling Engine

Table of contents

Updated November 9, 2017

Overview

This article discusses the possibility of monitoring overlapping or duplicate IP addresses on a Single Polling Engine using either the SolarWinds Windows or Linux Agent.

Environment

  • Orion Platform 2014 and later
  • NPM 10.7 and later
  • SAM 6.2 and later

Detail

  • The SolarWinds Agents supports overlapping IP addresses without any issues.
  • The only case where this may not work is where the hostname, IP, and SID are all identical as a result of cloning/imaging the endpoint.
  • At the very minimum, the SID must be unique between each endpoint.
