This article provides brief information and a resolution when the Lavasoft Web Companion breaks Orion.

The following symptoms are seen:

  • BusinesslayeHost.log reflects that it is waiting for SWISv2 to start.
  • A error appears:
WARN  SolarWinds.Orion.Core.Common.ServiceHelper - Waiting for SWIS v2.0 start. Attempt 2, exception message: "The open operation did not complete within the allotted timeout of 00:01:00. The time allotted to this operation may have been a portion of a longer timeout.

  • Log for SWISv2, Orion.InformationService.log appears to be running fine and no symptoms of non responsiveness.

  • Configuration wizard may also fail with:

Website configuration failed: - Connection to SolarWinds Information Service did not succeed.  Last error:  The socket connection was aborted.  This could be caused by an error processing your message or a receive timeout being exceeded by the remote host, or an underlying network resource issue.  Local socket timeout was '##:##:##:#######' Despite this message, Information Services are up and there are no relevant errors in the Information Services logs

  • All Orion Core products

Any of the following causes the issue:

  • Installation of some applications sometimes introduce free applications, for example, anti-malware.
  • Lavasoft Web Companion is one of those anti-malware that blocks traffic within the Orion server (if installed in that location).
  • This product block ports within the server that will cease functionality of the applications.

Uninstall or disable Lavasoft Web Companion.
