Internet Browser crashes using a NOC view or leaks the browser memory

Updated 12/19/2017

Overview

If you use the NOC view, the browser consumes a lot of memory, and starts hanging. This issue can also be seen if you leave the browser on standard views for long periods of time, such as overnight. You have to reboot the client computer to reduce the memory usage.

Environment

  • Any module using Core 2017.3 (for example, NPM 12.2 or NCM 7.7)

Cause

This is most likely an issue with the UI framework.

Resolution

  1. Go to the Advanced Configuration page by entering the following URL: YOURHOSTNAME/Orion/Admin/AdvancedConfiguration/Global.aspx
  2. Find the Orion.Web.EnableXui setting.
The Orion.Web.EnableXui setting is responsible for enabling new UI framework features like New Manage Nodes page, some of ASA device's chart resources (like the Bandwidth chart), and the Side Bar menu.
  3. Disable this setting.
  4. Verify that it resolves the problem. If it does not, change the setting back to enabled.
