How to decommission an unused Additional Polling Engine

Overview

This article describes how to decommission an unused Additional Polling Engine (APE).

Environment

  • All Orion Platform versions

Steps

  1. Move all elements to a working poller.
  2. Deactivate the SolarWinds license using the Orion License Manager.
  3. Delete the empty APE.
    1. Log in to the Orion Web Console as an administrator.
    2. Click Settings > All Settings.
    3. Under Details, click Polling Engines.
    4. Delete the empty APE.
  4. Uninstall the SolarWinds software on the target server.

 

In some cases, it may be preferred to remove this from the engines table in the database. Please note Solarwinds recommends taking a full database backup before making changes on the Solarwinds database.

  1. Open the Database manager on the Solarwinds server
  2. Click on the 'add default server
  3. Expand the tables in the Solarwinds database
  4. Locate the Engines table and expand this to view the contents
  5. Click on the 'Enable table editing'
  6. Right click on the left of the row you want to remove and select 'Delete the selected row(s)'
