Force SolarWinds website cookies to use HTTPS (SSL)

Overview

This article describes how to force SolarWinds Orion website cookies to use HTTPS (SSL). 

Environment

  • All Orion products 

Steps

Open the web.config file in a text editor and enable a secure flag.                      

  1. Log into the Main Polling Engine + Additional web server (if available).
  2. Navigate to:

    C:\InetPub\Solarwinds

  3. Back up the web.config file to a separate location.
  4. Open the web.config file in a text editor (such as Notepad).
  5. In the file, locate:

    <system.web>  

  6. Append <system.web> with the following:

    <httpCookies requireSSL="true" />

  7. In the file, locate:

    <forms loginUrl="~/Orion/Login.aspx"/>

  8. Change this parameter to:

    <forms loginUrl="~/Orion/Login.aspx" requireSSL="true" />

  9. Save the file.
  10. Open a command prompt as an administrator.
  11. Execute:

    IISreset
