Examining log files after an installation fails

Overview

When an Installation runs, logs are generated. Folders are generated for the date and time of the attempted installation. If an installation fails, use the information below to locate the log files.

Environment

  • Orion Platform 2017.3 and later

Detail

Logs for the Installation can be found at: 

 

c:\ProgramData\Solarwinds\Logs\Installer 

 

Each iteration of the installation has its own folder. In Diagnostics, the installer folder can be found at:

 

*.zip\:LogFiles\Orion\Installer

 

Look through the logs to see if the Configuration completed.

 

One of the more frequent installer issues shows an error in WinPcapSilent.msi.*  where one of the logs in the same installation says that the configuration completed successfully and the other more current log says that the installation failed. Should you see this, uninstall WinPcap and restart the installation.
