Error when running Configuration Wizard for Website: The object identifier does not represent a valid object

Overview

You may receive the following error when running the Configuration Wizard for the Orion Website:

 

The object identifier does not represent a valid object. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x800710D8)

 

The following error can be found in the ConfigurationWizard.log:

 

XXXX-XX-XX XX:XX:XX,XXX [19] ERROR ConfigurationProgressScene - Exception while configuring plugins.

 

System.Runtime.InteropServices.COMException (0x800710D8):  The object identifier does not represent a valid object. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x800710D8)

  • Orion Platform, all versions

Cause

The cause is currently unknown.

Resolution

  1. Uninstall and then reinstall IIS using the instructions below. (Different instructions may be applicable depending on the Windows Server version.)

  2. Then rebuild the Orion Website using the instructions below:  https://support.solarwinds.com/Success_Center/Network_Performance_Monitor_(NPM)/Rebuild_the_Orion_Website
