Overview

This article provides brief information and steps to resolve the following error in the Orion Web Console:

Error: Could not connect to net.tcp://{Hostname}:17777/orion/npm/businesslayer. The connection attempt lasted for a time span of 00:00:20.9687500. TCP error code 10061: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it {Different-IP_Address}:17777.

Environment

NPM version 9.5 or later

Cause

This error occurs when the SolarWinds Job Engine is unable to connect to the Orion Server's Hostname. You must first give the Orion Server a Static IP Address, this will help in case of any network changes.

Resolution

  1. Click Start > Run > cmd, Press OK. Enter ipconfig.
Note: Make sure the IP Address is correct.
  2. Go to C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc and Open up Hosts in a text  editor.
  3. Enter in your IP Address and your Hostname in the Format Example of the File.
  4. Save the Host File.
  5. Open up Database Manager and connect to the SQL Database.
  6. Expand the NetPefMon Database (Default) and scroll down to the WebSettings Table.
  7. After opening up the WebSettings Table, select Query, then select the Button for Read-Write, click on Refresh.
  8. Under the SettingName of JobSchedulerHost you have the Setting Value of your Orion Server. Change the Hostname to the IP Address, and double-click the Value and you will be able to edit and enter in the IP Address.
  9. Once you have entered in the IP Address, press Enter.
  10. Restart all Solarwinds Services.

You should now be able to edit your Nodes, or open up UnDP.
