Updated November 22, 2017

When you are trying to upgrade any of the Orion Platform Products (for example, NPM, SAM, NTA, or NCM), a message similar to the following is displayed:

Failed. Service SolarWinds Information Service V3' (SWInfoServiceSvcV3) could not be installed. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to install system services

  • Orion Platform 2017.1 and later
  • Products using the SolarWinds Orion Installer

Possible causes can include but are not limited to:

  • Insufficient Permissions
  • Antivirus Applications blocking the installation

  1. Log in to the Orion Server as a Local Administrator.
  2. Open the Control Panel and uninstall the Service named in the error message. In the example above, it is the SolarWinds Information Service.
  3. Open a Command Prompt as Admin and enter:
    SC Delete <ServiceName>
    For this example:
    SC Delete SWInfoServiceSvcV3
    SC Delete SWInfoServiceSvc
  4. Disable any Antivirus applications.
  5. Run the Orion Permission Checker and fix any Permission Issues flagged.
  6. Reboot the server.
  7. Log in again as a Local Administrator on the server.
  8. Run the SolarWinds Orion Installer and Configuration Wizard.
