Device that is not monitored by NPM is getting SNMP requests from the Orion Server

Updated April 25, 2017

Overview

This article describes the issue where a UPS device that is not monitored by NPM is getting SNMP request form the Orion server.

Environment

All NPM versions

Cause

This issue occurs when a  monitored device is incorrectly configured and has the broadcast address use as the polling address

This causes the requests to be sent to all devices including devices that are not directly monitored by NPM.

Resolution

  1. Click Start > All Programs > Solarwinds Orion > Advanced Features > Database Manager.
  2. Add the default Server and expand the NPM Database (default ) SolarwindsOrion.
  3. Run the following query:
    Select * from Nodesdata where ip_address = '255.255.255.255'
  4. Copy the caption that is returned in the query and open the Web Console.
  5. Go to Settings > Manage Nodes, and then search using the caption.
  6. Edit the nodes and replace the Broadcast address with the correct polling address.
  7. Do this for each node that is identified in the query.
