Configure the SolarWinds Orion application pool to improve loading period

Overview

This article describes how to eliminate the 15 to 30 second loading period when opening the Orion Web Console or when visiting a page for the first time by configuring IIS not to recycle the application pool.

Environment

  • All NPM versions
  • All IIS versions

Steps

  1. Open IIS Manager.
  2. Configure the application pool for the SolarWinds Orion Application Pool by right-clicking the pool and click "Advanced Settings.
  3. Set the following options:
    • Under the General section set Start Mode: AlwaysRunning
    • Within the Process Model set the Idle Time-out Action (minutes): 1440
  4. Restart the application pool.

 

  1. If the above time out does not fix the issue please follow these additional steps:
    1. Following these same steps
      1. Open IIS Manager.
      2. Configure the application pool for the SolarWinds Orion Application Pool by right-clicking the pool and click "Advanced Settings.
      3. Set the following options:
        • Under the General section set Start Mode: AlwaysRunning
        • Within the Process Model set the Idle Time-out Action (minutes): 0
      4. Under Recycling in IIS Manager
      5. Expand the Application Pools
      6. On the right hand side click Recycling
      7. Check the Specific Time box and insert a time: Example 4:00 AM.
      8. Uncheck Fixed Intervals
      9. Click Next
      10. Click Finish
      11. Recycle  the application pool
      12. Exit out of IIS Manager
