Configuration Wizard freezes after configuring the database settings

When you install an Orion Platform product and run the Configuration Wizard, the wizard does not continue after you complete the Database Settings window and click Next. The window remains responsive, but does not prompt any warnings or errors.

The SQL Database service account EXECUTE permission is denied

The ConfigurationWizard.log file displays the following error:

ERROR SceneContainer - SceneContainer:bntNext_Click: Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.
Common.ExecutionFailureException: An exception occurred while executing a 
Transact-SQL statement or batch. ---> System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: 
The EXECUTE permission was denied on the object 'xp_instance_regread', 
database 'mssqlsystemresource', schema 'sys'.


  1. Open Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio.
  2. Connect to the database. 
  3. Expand the SQL Server instance.
  4. Expand to Logins.
  5. Right-click Properties > Server Roles and locate the service account.
  6. Add the following server role:
  7. Save your changes.
  8. Re-run the Configuration Wizard.
