This article describes how to change the priority of a dual NIC Orion server. An Orion server has dual NICs with no priority setting or the wrong NIC is set as primary one and Orion will default to that NIC as its IP address.

  • NPM
  • Orion Core

  1. Determine the Primary NIC by the IP Address.
  2. Set the priority of the NICs.
    1. Go to Start > Run > ncpa.cpl:
    2. Use ATL_N to display the Advanced Menu:

    3. Select Advanced Settings.
On the Adapters and Bindings tab, go to Connections List and select the connection you want to modify for the order using the arrow buttons.
And in the Bindings for the selected connection, modify the protocol order using the arrow buttons:

    4. In the Provider Order tab, select the provider and change the order using arrow buttons:

  3. Go to the Database Manager.

    1. Start > All Programs > SolarWinds Orion > Advanced Features Database Manager, then Add Default Server.

    2. Expand the Orion Database and query the "AllEngines" table(for NPM 12.x it is called "Engines" table)

    3. Enabled Table Editing and change the IP to the Primary NIC IP of the Orion Server.

  4. Go to Start > All Programs > SolarWinds Orion > Advanced Features > Orion Service Manager and Stop / Restart all services for the changes.
