Cannot recreate a deleted custom property

Updated May 31, 2017

Overview

If you delete a custom property, it may not be completely removed from the system, which can lead to errors when you recreate the property.

Environment

Any product running on the Orion Platform, such as:

  • NPM 12.1 and earlier
  • SAM 6.4 and earlier

Cause

Not all custom property information is removed from the Orion database when the custom property is deleted. The extra information prevents you from creating the same custom property that you have previously deleted.

Resolution

  1. Log in to your Orion server as an administrator.

  2. Create a backup of your SolarWinds Orion database with SQL Management Studio. See Create a full database backup (SQL)(© 2017 Microsoft, available at https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sql...kup-sql-server, obtained on June 26, 201.).

  3. Navigate to your SolarWinds install folder > Orion > ActiveDiagnostics, and run SolarWinds.Orion.ActiveDiagnostics.exe.

  4. Select Run individual tests.

  5. Under Database health, run the following tests:

You may need to run the Active Diagnostics Self-Check tests to see these options.

    • Check SQL to SWIS custom properties integrity

    • Check SWIS to SQL custom properties integrity

  6. Open SQL Management Studio and run the queries provided in Active Diagnostics.

  7. Restart SolarWinds Information Service and Internet Information Services.

You should now be able to create the custom property.
