Application Centric Monitor Release Notes

Last updated: November 10, 2017

These release notes describe the key features of Application Centric Monitor, a SolarWinds product that contains the following components:

  • SAM 6.4
  • WPM 2.2.1

They also provide information about upgrades and describe work-arounds for known issues.

Key features

Unified server and application monitoring across private, public, and hybrid cloud environments

Provide end-to-end visibility and performance monitoring of your server and applications using agent and agentless based technologies.  Monitor across multiple data centers, remote locations, or cloud (Amazon AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, etc.)

Built-in templates provide best practices

Apply a template for AD, Java, XenApp, IBM WebSphere, Lync, and hundreds of other applications, and start monitoring immediately.

Extensive customization gives you the power to monitor what and how you want

Create custom monitors, modify built-in templates, and import your existing custom scripts to monitor your applications and relevant services.

New customer installation

For information about installing Application Centric Monitor, see the Application Centric Monitor Installation Guide.

Before you upgrade!

If you are upgrading from a previous version, be aware of the following considerations:

  • After SAM 6.4, future releases will no longer support Windows OS 2008 and 2008 R2 and Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2. SAM 6.4 currently supports these versions. SolarWinds recommends that you upgrade to Windows Server 2012, 2012 R2, or 2016 at your earliest convenience. For more information, see End of support notices.
  • Within SAM 6.4, the Alert Manager application has been deprecated and removed. Please use the web-based Alert Manager through the Orion Web Console to create and manage alerts. For more information, see End of support notices.
  • When upgrading on the Additional Poller, you may receive this error " The license we have for Orion Scalability Engine is outdated". See this article for details to resolve.
  • Check the compatibility of SAM 6.4 for your upgrade path with this article.
  • Typically, you always upgrade NPM first if you have it installed. NPM includes platform features to support all Orion products. Depending on your upgrade path, you may need to upgrade another product before progressing to an NPM upgrade.

How to upgrade

If you are upgrading from a previous version, use the following resources to plan and implement your upgrade:

Known issues

Previously added AWS IAM account credentials encounters error for Test Connection

Issue: When editing an existing AWS IAM account, an error displays if you click the Test Connection button for an account you do not modify access IDs.

Work-around: Despite the error, the account continues providing AWS IAM account access and monitoring for cloud instances and attached volumes.

TLS 1.2 support on Additional Polling Engines and Additional Websites

Issue: Cannot install Additional Polling Engines (APE) or Additional Websites (AWS) when the main polling engine uses TLS 1.2.

Work-around: Revert the main polling engine to an earlier version of TLS to install the APE or AWS. Once the APE or AWS is fully installed, you can re-disable SSLv3, TLS 1.0, and TLS 1.1 on your main polling engine.
