Network Discovery hanging after implementing Hotfix 2 for NTM 2.2.1

Overview

This article describes the issue when after installing Hotfix 2 for NTM version 2.2.1, new network scan to hangs on the network discovery phase and does proceed to the next step.

Environment

  • All versions of Windows
  • NTM version 2.2.1 with Hotfix 2

Cause 

This issue occurs due to the newly implemented DLL files being blocked by Windows.

Resolution

​Unblock the files:

  1. Unzip Hotfix 2 ZIP file to a temporary directory on the system hosting the NTM installation.
  2. Right-click each DLL file in the  temporary directory and click Properties.
  3. Click Unblock.

 

Implement the files:

  1. Close Network Topology Manager. 
  2. Click Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services, and stop the SolarWinds Network Topology Job Scheduler service. 
  3. Navigate to %Program Files%\SolarWinds\Network Topology Mapper and back up the following files to a separate location: 
  • SolarWinds.NTM.BusinessLayer.dll
  • SolarWinds.NTM.Client.exe
  • SolarWinds.NTM.Data.dll
  • SolarWinds.NTM.Pollers.dll
  • SolarWinds.NTM.Topology.dll
  1. Navigate to %Program Files%\SolarWinds\Network Topology Mapper\Service and back up the following files to a separate location:
  • SolarWinds.NTM.BusinessLayer.dll
  • SolarWinds.NTM.Data.dll
  • SolarWinds.NTM.Pollers.dll
  • SolarWinds.NTM.Topology.dll
  1. Navigate to c:\ProgramData\Solarwinds\Network Topology Mapper\Configs and back up the following file to a separate location: 
  • Calculation.cfg
  1. Navigate to %Program Files%\SolarWinds\Network Topology Mapper and copy the following files included with the hotfix to this directory:
  •  SolarWinds.NTM.BusinessLayer.dll
  •  SolarWinds.NTM.Client.exe
  •  SolarWinds.NTM.Data.dll
  •  SolarWinds.NTM.Pollers.dll
  •  SolarWinds.NTM.Topology.dll
  1. Navigate to %Program Files%\SolarWinds\Network Topology Mapper\Service and copy the following files included with the hotfix to this directory:
  • SolarWinds.NTM.BusinessLayer.dll
  • SolarWinds.NTM.Data.dll
  • SolarWinds.NTM.Pollers.dll
  • SolarWinds.NTM.Topology.dll
  1. Navigate to c:\ProgramData\Solarwinds\Network Topology Mapper\Configs and copy the following file included with the hotfix to this directory:
  • Calculation.cfg
  1. Click Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services and start the SolarWinds Network Topology Job Scheduler service. 
  2. Start Network Topology Manager.
