NTM Setup Wizard Issue: SWJobSchedulingSvc Setup hungs on every start up/restart on W2K3SP2 DE

Issue:

In the Network Topology Mapper (NTM) setup wizard, the SolarWinds Job Scheduling Service (SWJobSchedulingSvc) freezes after restart with the following error message: 

The SolarWinds Job Scheduling Service service hung on starting.

Cause:

The error is caused by late start of WMI Performance Adapter service (WMIApSrv) and adding the dependency is incorrect. 

Note: The issue is reproducible only on Windows 2003 SP1 (either x86 or x64)

Resolution:

1. User must completely uninstall NTM, and re-install it again. (click Start > Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features > SolarWinds Network Topology Mapper > Uninstall)

To re-install NTM, see Network Topology Mapper Administrator Guide for procedures. 

2. After re-installing the NTM service, Click Start > Click Run > Run regedit (Microsoft Registry Editor) > Click OK.

Note:

Using Regedit enables the user to view, search, and modify settings in the system registry that contains information how NTM should run. 

3. Locate key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\SwJobSchedulingSvc.
4. Add REG_MULTI_SZ key DependOnService.
5. Right-click DependOnService and then set its value to wmiApSrv.
6. Restart NTM service.
