NTM fails to start (no errors)

Updated: January 7, 2019

This article provides information on how to resolve an issue that occurs when, after installing NTM, double-clicking NTM does not start the application.

  • Windows 7 or later
  • All versions of NTM

This can occur if NTM is not able to access the registry and see license information. To confirm the issue is caused by a failure to access the registry:

  1. Open the following file in notepad: C:\ProgramData\SolarWinds\Network Topology Mapper\Logs\SolarWinds.Client.log
  2. Look for the error:
LicenseProvider - Failed to get license.
Exception: System.Security.SecurityException: Requested registry access is
    not allowed.

To resolve this issue, right-click the NTM application and click Run as Administrator.

Optionally, you can also complete the procedures below:

  1. Reset License and Re-activate again
  2. Right-click the NTM application, and click Properties.
  3. Click the Compatibility tab.
  4. Select Run as administrator.
  5. Click OK.
