WebinarUpcoming Webinar: Know What’s Changed – with NEW Server Configuration Monitor

Change management in IT is critical. But, even with a good change management process, changes are too often not correctly tracked, if at all. The configuration of your servers and applications is a key factor in their performance, availability, and security. Many incidents can be tracked back to an authorized (and sometimes unauthorized) configuration change, whether to a system file, configuration file, or Windows® Registry entry. Join SolarWinds VP of product management Brandon Shopp to discover how the new SolarWinds® Server Configuration Monitor is designed to help you.

You do not have permission to view Net Object N

Updated June 7th, 2016

Overview

When you open the Node Details page, you receive the following error for some of the nodes:

You do not have permission to view Net Object "N:##"
This can be any node id designated by the ## at the end of the message

Environment

NPM all versions ( also Network Atlas Maps )

Cause

This is because of the view  settings or account limitation.

Resolution

  1. Open the NPM Web Console.
  2. Go to Settings > Manage Views.
  3. Edit the view called Node Details - summary or if the device is assigned a different Node details view then edit that view.
  4. Remove any limitations.
  5. Save the View.
  6. If no limitations on the view then check the account you are using by going to Settings > Manage Accounts.
  7. Edit the account giving the error and check to see if the account has any limitations and if so remove them.
  8. Verify the view exists if using views by device type.
  9. Verify the error is no longer given when going into the Node Details view.

***** added option to resolve ***** can apply to NetworkAtlas MAP throwing this message
  10. --- If neither of these are the cause - Possible corrupted View
    1. Copy view to a new view, test,
    2. optionally replace view resource with new resource, test (then delete old resource)
