Windows could not start the SolarWinds Agent service on Local Computer. Error 0x8009033d

Overview

The SolarWinds Agent Service is on STOPPED state. Unable to start due to error shown below:

 

Windows could not start the SolarWinds Agent service on Local Computer. Error 0x8009033d: The client certificate does not contain a valid UPN, or does not match the client name in the logon request. Please contact your administrator.

Environment

NPM 11.0.1 and later

Cause 

The Agent Software (.msi) installed is incompatible with the NPM version installed on the Orion Server.

Resolution

1. Click on Start > Run > type appwiz.cpl
2. Right-click on "SolarWinds Agent 1.0.x.x" > click on Uninstall
3. Download the new msi file on the Orion Server from the Orion Website by accessing Settings > Manage Agents > Download Agent Software
4. Open C:\ProgramData\Solarwinds\Installers to replace the old Agent Software msi file
5. Install the new Agent Software msi file
