Looking to compare latest NPM features with previous versions of NPM?
The NPM new feature summary offers a comparison of new features and improvements offered with this release.
To display Software Version and Software Image in the Node Details resource in the Orion Web Console, the device must support the
188.8.131.52.184.108.40.206, and provide the information.
Node Details for a Cisco Node
Node Details for a Windows node
See Management Information Base (MIB) for information about MIBs and OIDs.
To provide information about the software operation system on a device, the Orion Platform products poll the OID
sysDescription - 220.127.116.11.18.104.22.168. Orion Platform products identify the information about Software Version and Software Image from the OID.
If a device sends the response for
SysDescription in a different way than expected, and NPM is not able to parse Software Version and Image, you cannot see the Software Version and Image information on the Node Details page.
To resolve the issue, create a custom device poller and specify the vendor-specific OIDs for Sofware Version/Image.
To verify that the device responds to the OID:
For Cisco Node
.22.214.171.124.126.96.36.199.0 = STRING: "Cisco Internetwork Operating System Software
IOS (tm) C2600 Software (C2600-I-M), Version 12.0(9), RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1) Copyright (c) 1986-2000 by cisco Systems, Inc.
For Windows Node
.188.8.131.52.184.108.40.206.0 = STRING: "Hardware: Intel64 Family 6 Model 58 Stepping 9 AT/AT COMPATIBLE - Software: Windows Version 6.1 (Build 7600 Multiprocessor Free)"
Create a custom poller for the Node Details technology, and specify the device OIDs that provide the Software Version and Image on the device.
To find out the OID specifying software information on your device, consult the vendor's documentation.
The information about software polled using the Device Studio poller will be included in the Node Details resource.
See Manage pollers with Device Studio for information about custom pollers.
